Oggie Svenson, a former inmate of the penitentiary home to the world’s dumbest dog, Rantanplan, bequeaths all his possessions to the latter upon his death. But according to the will, in the event of Rantanplan’s death, everything goes to Joe Dalton, his beloved master.
Cowboy Lucky Luke is put in charge of the custody and management of Rantanplan’s property, and then together with Jolly Jumper, the smartest horse in the world, the three leave the penitentiary. Arriving in Virginia City, Rantanplan, the new owner of a luxury hotel and several mines, becomes a highly sought-after figure among the employees, journalists, and other greedy residents of Nevada City.
With the news of the possible takeover of the property, the Daltons begin to forge an escape plan. The prisoners find a way to secretly sneak into the city and carry out the plan, but in doing so, they become entangled with the Chinese community living there, who are not to be trifled with, and trouble begins…
